Photographer Oliver Perry joined Boss at the beginning of September after his work came to the attention of our scouts, Working alongside them and our Model Bookers, Oliver has been busy shooting our New Faces Division & Development Board. We caught up with him to reflect on his time spent at Boss.

Hi Oliver, tell us about your time at Boss
It’s been a fantastic experience for me. Having the opportunity to work in an Agency, I have learned so much about how images are collated, processed and presented to clients. It’s very fast-paced to turn things around here!

The placement has also enabled me to work with a vast range of amazing faces. Before working at Boss I predominantly focused on shooting male models, but I have loved the opportunity to capture more female models too.

How have you helped develop the New Faces Division?
Working closely with the models we concentrated on their portfolio needs and made sure to capture a different side to them to broaden their opportunities of work. For example, they may have needed more simple stripped-back images.

Where have you been shooting?
Some of my shoots have been at the fabulous Loft studio space at Boss HQ, amazing for natural light! I have also shot models in and around the quirky Northern Quarter, but my favourite was shooting at MMU Fine Art Studios.  Thank you MMU!

What is your advice to models who are test shooting?
My advice for any models on test shoots is to practice making a connection with the camera. I always suggest that they should imagine the camera is a person they know and connect with it. After they have accomplished that, they can start to introduce different moves into it.

What’s your advice on anyone who is starting out in photography?
Boss was amazing at giving me the room to develop my own creativity on shoots. My piece of advice for any photographer is to make the model feel as comfortable as possible. Try relating to them in some way through conversation to help them feel more confident.

I got to find out some amazing stuff about our models such as their side careers like Alfie who wants to build and design trains, George Finlay who told us about life as a Farmer, and Wayne who has recently opened his first Gym! It’s all very interesting and part of getting to know the model and bringing out their personality.

Oliver, we’ve loved having you here. You have been a great addition to the development team.  We will miss your calmness and creativity, but this is not an official farewell as we look forward to having you back as a freelancer in the near future.  Have a superb Christmas! xx
